The
Servant Leadership
The
concept of servant leadership focuses on serving others by the leader
clearly.
Several
researchers who look for this issue think that a service is supporting
and helping others to defeat challenges and obstacles that face them, developing
other people's abilities and skills in solving problems and facing crises,
and encouraging them on creation and innovation.
So
The Servant Leadership means that the effect on people in order to
participate their abilities and choices so that they achieve shared goals which
is useful for all persons.
The
servant leader have high skills in communicating and building relations because
he is sympathetic with other people , aware of their needs , and a good
listener for them so that he can share them in making decisions and
reducing of making strict orders.
In
1970, the concept of the servant leadership appeared for the first time by
Jreenlef in an article entitled The Servant Leader. Also, Jreenlef was the
first person who inserted the concept of Servant Leadership in education fields
in 1979 when he issued a book about The Servant Leader. As well as, he
concluded that the great leadership doesn't derive out of the prestige or the skill
but it comes from the wish of the individual towards serving others.
According
to Sims 1997, The definition of The Servant Leadership is the pattern of
leadership which respects the dignity of the individual and raises of his
status , and his creative and instinctive point of view for leadership as much
as possible.
According
to Patterson 2003, Servant Leadership is the leadership in which the leaders
serve in it in a large concentration on their headers as if they are the first
important concern and the affairs of institution and its cases are the second
concern.
The
Importance of Servant Leadership:
1.
The Importance on the level of the institution: This means that the achieving of organizational high level performance
under the control of servant leadership that is focusing on people's needs
whether they belongs to this institution or they makes use of the works of it.
2.
The Importance on the level of followers: The importance of servant leadership lies as being taking care of
followers firstly, achieving the respect of human self, giving them the
sense of independents, admitting in their achievements, appreciating
their efforts and evaluating their works. Also, it sympathizes with them.
3.
The Importance on the level of the society: This is through what the servant leadership is calling like the
human virtues that different societies need.
The characteristics of the Servant Leadership:
1)
Personal Characteristics: represents in Righteousness, Communication , and the service.
2)
Characteristics that are directed towards others: This concentrates on taking care others, allowing others,
and improving others.
3)
Characteristics that are directed towards missions: represents in vision, setting goals, and leadership.
4)
Characteristics that are directed towards processes: This means modeling, building a team and participating
in making decision.
